SIMI FAJEMIROKUN-AJAYI: THE ILE-OLUJI ROOTS, FAMILY LEGACY, AND GROWING POLITICAL CONVERSATION

SIMI FAJEMIROKUN-AJAYI: THE ILE-OLUJI ROOTS, FAMILY LEGACY, AND GROWING POLITICAL CONVERSATION

Recent political discussions following the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency have continued to generate conversations around the ancestry and historical connection of Hon. Simi Fajemirokun-Ajayi to Ile-Oluji Kingdom.

Supporters and community stakeholders have pointed to historical records and family lineage to reaffirm her longstanding ties to the community, describing her as a proud daughter of Ile-Oluji with deep ancestral roots and a family history associated with development and public service.

Historical accounts indicate that Ile-Oluji, like many Yoruba communities, evolved through migration and settlement from different parts of the old Yoruba kingdoms, particularly Ile-Ife, Ipetu, and neighbouring settlements. Oral history and local accounts suggest that some of the earliest settlers from Ile-Ife established communities around Ekunjamo, now part of present-day Ile-Oluji.

Against this historical background, supporters of Hon. Simi Fajemirokun-Ajayi maintain that her family lineage within Ile-Oluji is well documented across generations.

Her grandfather, the late Chief Henry Fajemirokun, was reportedly born in Ile-Oluji to the family of Daniel Famakinwa Fajemirokun and Felicia Adebumi Fajemirokun (née Akinsuroju). Family accounts identify Felicia Adebumi Fajemirokun as a descendant of the Akinsuroju royal lineage and granddaughter of Omoba Adebamigbei, whose father held the traditional title of Jegun of Ile-Oluji.

Chief Henry Fajemirokun is remembered in many quarters for his contributions to community development in Ile-Oluji. Community leaders and residents have often referenced his role in supporting the electrification of the town as well as his involvement in establishing a multi-purpose hospital that later became the present General Hospital, Ile-Oluji.

The developmental contributions associated with the Fajemirokun family have also been highlighted by supporters in recent public conversations. Hon. Simi’s father, Chief Dele Fajemirokun, has been credited with supporting several community-based initiatives, including financial contributions toward the installation of a step-down transformer and the establishment of an endowment fund aimed at supporting educational development within the town.

Political observers note that Hon. Simi Fajemirokun-Ajayi has consistently acknowledged her connection to Ile-Oluji and has publicly expressed commitment to the development, unity, and progress of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and Odigbo Federal Constituency.

Her participation in the APC primary election has further intensified discussions about leadership, representation, and the future political direction of the constituency. Supporters argue that her involvement reflects a continuation of a family legacy linked to community service and development.

As political activities continue across the constituency, conversations surrounding identity, community history, leadership capacity, and developmental vision are expected to remain central to public discourse ahead of future electoral engagements.
