TENSION AS N-POWER BENEFICIARIES DRAG FG TO COURT OVER THREE YEARS’ UNPAID STIPENDS

Aggrieved beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s N-Power programme are set to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja as legal proceedings over alleged unpaid stipends commence on Tuesday.

The case, scheduled for hearing at 9:00 a.m., centres on claims by beneficiaries that several participants in the social investment programme have not received stipends allegedly owed to them for years.

Members of the group, identified as N-Power Beneficiaries, disclosed the development through messages circulated on social media, where they called on affected individuals to attend the court session.

According to the group, the legal action represents a significant move in their efforts to seek redress over what they described as prolonged delays and unresolved payments.

In one of the messages shared online, the group expressed dissatisfaction over the situation and urged members to mobilize for the hearing.

“Tomorrow at 9AM be there as we take on these financial scavengers and economic cankerworms that have held our stipends for the past three years,” the statement partly read.

The beneficiaries alleged that the outstanding stipends have remained unpaid despite repeated appeals and engagements with relevant authorities, leading to frustration among participants across different parts of the country.

The N-Power programme was introduced by the Federal Government as part of its social intervention initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment and empowering young Nigerians through temporary job placements and skills development.

Observers believe the case may further spotlight concerns surrounding the implementation and sustainability of government welfare programmes, especially those targeted at unemployed youths.

Legal analysts also note that the matter reflects the increasing reliance on the judiciary by citizens seeking resolution of socio-economic disputes involving public institutions.

As proceedings begin at the Federal High Court in Abuja, attention is expected to focus on the court’s initial directives and the response of relevant government agencies involved in the matter.
